Sports Card Magazines

By Tim Cates

I am an avid sports card collector and I collect primarily basketball cards. But, I also dabble a little bit in baseball and football cards as well.

When it comes to sports card collecting, basic knowledge is a must, especially for newer collectors. Knowing which players to collect and the market value of their most collected cards is essential so your wallet won't be taken for a ride.

That's where sports card magazines come in. Reading up on what new products and players that are out there is a lot of fun for card collecting enthusiasts.

And the best magazine for achieving that Beckett sports card magazine. It is full of information. They cover all sports. Baseball, basketball and football cards. I'm not too sure is they still publish their hockey issue or not.

Beckett sports card magazine has a proven record and has been around for a long time. It was back in 1984 that Beckett published it's first monthly baseball card price guide magazine. That was followed by their first football card issue in 1989, which features Bo Jackson on the cover. Then, in March of 1990, Beckett introduced it's basketball issue that features, who else? Michael Jordan on the cover.

Beckett sports card magazine has grown in production and popularity over the years. Today, their issues feature new product reviews, the newest sets that are getting ready to hit the market and more.

One of my favorite parts of Beckett magazine is they actually have their staff bust open packs of the current cards and show what they got. Like how many autograph cards, memorabilia cards, numbered cards per box, etc. They also feature a "Market Buzz" article in their magazine that tells of that months hot players to collect as well as players that aren't doing so hot.

You can pick up a current Beckett Sports Card Price Guide at just about any book store, grocery store or eBay. Getting them on eBay is pretty cool because you can purchase back issues. Back issues are really a lot of fun to look at because you can see how much prices have changed on certain players and sets.

You can also get a subscription or single copies to their monthly magazine by going right to their website, which I have added below.

In closing i will say that Beckett sports cards magazine has been a vital lifeline for me since I they started producing their issues back in the day. I have used it for pricing, card numbers, sets and more.

Yeah, it is a very fun hobby. I have two daughters that I have tried to get into collecting sports cards but they are too much into Facebook, MySpace, etc. lol!
